A giant bleb for cell-kind: artificial cells reveal how living cells take shape
Using simple artificial cells, a research group led by Makito Miyazaki of the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (IMS) in Japan have uncovered fundamental physical principles that govern how living cells change their shape. By combining experiments with computer simulations and theoretical analysis done in collaboration with Purdue University, …

AI-Designed Metamaterials Pave the Way for High-Speed Spin-Wave Computing
Spin waves (SWs), or magnons, are collective excitations of magnetization in magnetic materials arising from electron spins. They have attracted considerable attention as information carriers and have shown promise in logic circuits, memory devices, and physical neural networks. Among the emerging platforms for manipulating SWs are magnonic crystals (MCs), …

Molecular profiling of the single-cell proteome via gel electrophoresis and 3D single-molecule imaging
Recent advances in shotgun proteomics and immunoassays have yielded powerful single-cell proteomics technologies. However, current methods lack the sensitivity required to comprehensively quantify protein abundances in individual cells. Here, we present single-cell PAGE-PISA, an ultra-sensitive proteome profiling strategy that combines …

Overseas Branch Offices

The JST overseas offices are strategically located to capture the latest science and technology trends in their respective regions, actively promote the global activities of JST-funded Japanese researchers and leverage global networks to enhance and internationalize Japan's S&T.

  • Paris Office

We are JST's first-established overseas office, responsible for a wide range of countries within Europe and Africa. We negotiate and coordinate with relevant organizations and support the growth of JST's European operations, where science cooperation is often multi-layered and complex. We also play a vital role in transmitting local information back to JST headquarters, and are actively expanding our network of related organizations in order to improve Japan's S&T presence in Europe.
